At DeMatha English Medium School, we believe with absolute conviction that a truly educated child is educated in every dimension of their being — not just academically, but physically, emotionally, socially, creatively, and spiritually. Our co-curricular programme is not an optional extra tacked onto the school day — it is an indispensable, integral part of what it means to learn at DeMatha. From the mindful calm of Yoga to the strategic intensity of Chess, from the exhilaration of sports to the joy of cultural celebrations, every co-curricular activity at DeMatha is an act of liberation — freeing children to discover who they are and who they are becoming.
Yoga at DeMatha is one of our most distinctive and deeply valued programmes. Offered to students across all age groups, it teaches children to centre themselves, develop body awareness, regulate emotions, improve concentration, and cultivate a lifelong relationship with their own physical and mental wellbeing. In a world of increasing pressure and distraction, Yoga at DeMatha gives every child a powerful, portable tool for life — the ability to be still, to breathe, and to be present.
Our Yoga sessions are led by qualified instructors and are carefully adapted to each age group — from gentle, play-based movement for Pre-Primary students to more structured postures and breathing techniques for older students. Yoga is never compulsory in a rigid sense — it is a space of invitation, exploration, and growth that every child learns to love.
Chess is one of the most powerful educational tools a school can offer — and at DeMatha, it is embraced with enthusiasm by students across all grade levels. The Chess Club develops critical thinking, patience, strategic planning, and the discipline to analyse a situation before acting — skills that serve students not just on the board, but in every academic subject and in every aspect of adult life.
From complete beginners learning the movement of pieces to more experienced players studying strategic gambits and endgames, Chess Club at DeMatha is inclusive, encouraging, and genuinely competitive. Students participate in inter-school matches and friendly tournaments, developing confidence, sportsmanship, and a deep love for the game's infinite complexity and beauty.
Physical education at DeMatha is treated with the same seriousness and commitment as academic subjects — because we know that a healthy body and a healthy mind are inseparable. Our sports programme builds teamwork, resilience, healthy competition, and physical confidence in every student, from the youngest in Pre-Primary to the most senior students in Class VIII.
Outdoor play, organised sports sessions, and physical activity breaks are integrated into every school day — ensuring that children move, grow, and develop physically alongside their academic progress. DeMatha's sports activities include running, group games, traditional Indian sports, and age-appropriate team sports that build the habits and love of activity that will serve students for life.
DeMatha's cultural life is rich, vibrant, and deeply meaningful — a tapestry of celebrations that honours students' achievements, roots them in their cultural heritage, and builds the shared sense of identity and pride that defines the DeMatha family. National holidays, cultural programmes, inter-class competitions, talent shows, and the school's beloved annual Graduation Ceremony all mark the rhythms of a DeMatha year in ways that students remember long after they leave.
April 2026 saw DeMatha's first-ever formal Graduation Ceremony — a profoundly moving milestone for the school, its families, and the entire Tulsibari community. Students who began their journey in LKG in 2019 were celebrated and honoured for completing their foundational years at DeMatha. It was not just a ceremony — it was a promise fulfilled.
