DeMatha English Medium School is a CBSE-affiliated, co-educational institution in Tulsibari, Rangia, in the Kamrup district of Assam. Inaugurated on February 14, 2019, by the Muktidhan Trust — managed by the O.SS.T. Trinitarian Priests — the school was founded to meet the urgent need for quality, accessible education in the rural communities surrounding Rangia, where literacy rates stood at just 72% and school dropout rates reached 15%.
The school's name honours St. John de Matha, the 12th-century French theologian and priest who founded the Order of the Most Holy Trinity (O.SS.T.) in Paris in 1192 — rooted in mercy, liberation, and service to the most vulnerable. The Trinitarian mission first reached Assam in 2008, under the Archdiocese of Guwahati, building community trust across the Rangia region before DeMatha opened its doors, carrying that same 800-year-old charism into a 21st-century classroom.
What began as a single school in Tulsibari has grown steadily — in enrolment, in staff, and in the trust placed in it by hundreds of families — without ever losing sight of its founding motto: Educate to Liberate.
Inspired by the redemptive charism of St. John de Matha, the O.SS.T. Trinitarian Priests launched their missionary project in Assam in 2008 under the Archdiocese of Guwahati — committed to upholding the freedom of all, particularly the most vulnerable and marginalised communities of North East India. After a decade of community work in the Rangia area, the Muktidhan Trust established DeMatha English Medium School on February 14, 2019, in Tulsibari, Rangia.
The Managing Committee — led by the Vice Provincial, Rev. Fr. Augustin O.SS.T. — provides governance, financial oversight, and strategic direction, ensuring that DeMatha remains true to its founding mission while growing sustainably to serve more families across the Rangia region.
Meet Our ManagementEight centuries of a mission, a decade of preparation, and a school built with faith — this is the history behind DeMatha.
